Why pay Microsoft when you can get something better for free? Open Office is giving away a full open source office suite that I think is a bit better than MS Office. Less buggy, certainly. And it will open any Office doc that I have tossed at it. The word processor is not quite up to WordPerfect standards yet, but is better than Word. I do rather elaborate layouts for longish documents, so WordPerfect's superior graphics handling and drag and drop margins are very important to me, but may not matter to you. The interface copies Office, so the learning curve is short. The developers are interested in cross platform compatibility, so Open Office is available for most operating systems. It's a pretty hefty download, but there is a segmented option for those with dialup connections. Sure beats that 130 meg patch I had to download over an AOL dialup just to get Mom's copy of Office to talk to her address book. It's time to vote with the mouse! Say
NO to product activation and overpriced, buggy software!
